Maitland is a dynamic city, conveniently situated in the lower Hunter, within a 30 minute drive of Newcastle and only two hours from Sydney. Maitland’s liveability and employment opportunities have added to its ongoing commercial investment and residential growth with over 90,000 residents expected to call Maitland home by 2023. Our Strategic Recreation Planner will play an important role ensuring that Maitland City Council is responsive to the growing needs of the community.

About the role:
Being one step ahead with Council’s recreation, leisure and community facilities to support growing needs of the community, will become something you live by. As the Strategic Recreation Planner, your role will involve assisting with:
Developing, managing and maintaining projects, programs and services designed to build the capacity of the recreation and community sectors within the Maitland local government area.
Developing, managing and maintaining agreements/contracts associated with Council’s recreation and community facilities.
Facilitating opportunities for community and recreation groups to be involved in the planning of recreation services, programs and projects.
Establishing and maintaining working relationships and delivering agreed outcomes with internal and external stakeholders including community groups, sporting associations, professional groups and other levels of government.

About you:
With a tertiary qualification in recreation management, planning or a related field and/or significant demonstrated experience working in a recreation planning role, you will know how to research, develop and implement innovative and effective strategies, policies and management plans relating to Council’s recreation and community assets and facilities. You will also have sound contemporary knowledge of the recreation, leisure and open space industry and associated issues. To succeed in the role, you must be able to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and have a proven ability to work productively as a member of a team and contribute to team goals. It would be desirable if you had local government experience, or experience applying for and seeing through/completing grants within the recreation and community space.

This is a permanent full time role with a salary range of $85,694 up to $95,121 per year based on demonstrated competencies + 9.5% p.a. super. A leaseback Council vehicle will also be provided to the successful applicant.
