Salary: $443.00 p/wk, as per the current National Training Wage (Level B)
Full time, one-year fixed-term trainee contract (December 2022-December 2023)

Donvale Christian College is seeking a Outdoor Education Trainee to perform a variety of tasks, supporting the delivery of the outdoor education and camping program from Years 7 through to Year 11. The trainee will be busy camping, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, surfing, bushwalking, and white water rafting. When not out in the field with students and staff, the trainee will assist staff in the preparation of the camps and programs, maintaining the gear and keeping the outdoor gear shed in order.

The trainee will also be studying part-time completing a Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership through a registered training provider.

Donvale Christian College

Donvale Christian College is in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne having opened in 1975. The current enrolment is over 1500 students from Prep to Year 12 and the total number of employees is approximately 300.

Donvale Christian College is governed, as provided for in its Constitution, by the College Board. The Board are elected by the members of the College. The full range of Christian denominations is represented in the parent body of the College. There is no position on the Board elected or appointed by any single church community. The Board is totally elected by the membership of Donvale Christian College Ltd. The Principal is appointed by the Board and together they appoint staff.

Role Description

All staff are expected to perform their responsibilities in a manner which reflects the College’s mission, objectives and philosophy.

This position supports the College by assisting the Outdoor Education staff in the preparation of programs.

Traineeship Information:

  • 0.167 days holiday loading for every field day worked
  • Work/training may be on weekends, over public and school holidays.
  • The trainee is responsible for all course fees i.e., enrolment, ancillary etc. 2022 fees were $2,955 (concession) or $14,775 (subsidised) plus electives. 2023 fees are yet to be determined but may increase. See https://www.oeti.edu.au/traineeships/certificate-iii for more information.


  • A motivated person who can show initiative and work on their own as well as in a team.
  • Ability to work well with teenagers.
  • Well-presented and able to speak in front of groups of students and teachers.
  • A current Working with Children Check Employee card is essential.
  • A current driver’s license
  • Obtain first aid certification through the College’s First Aid training.
