As the Climbing Centre Coordinator, you will:

  • Maintain the Leadership Training Centre including completing scheduled safety inspections, maintenance of fixtures and associated equipment in accordance with the LTC Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support teaching staff in the development and conduct of LTC programs, outdoor education programs for both school and external clients. The Climbing Centre Coordinator reports to the Head of Department, Leadership and Personal Development and is ultimately accountable to the Principal.

Your role
As the Coordinator, Leadership Training Centre you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Develop and lead LTC activities (climbing, high ropes, abseiling) and outdoor education programs for school students and external clients.
  • Support the Head of Department in the development and conduct of programs, school camps and outdoor education programs.
  • Maintain the Training Centre (LTC) including completing scheduled safety inspections, maintenance of fixtures and associated equipment in accordance with the LTC Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provide advice on out-sourced maintenance, repair and safety inspections.
  • Support teaching staff in the control and maintenance of LTC and outdoor education stores and equipment
  • Establish relationships with external clients for the Centre
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Head of Department.

Key to your success in this role will be your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Certificate IV (or higher) in Outdoor Recreation, outdoor education experience in high ropes, climbing and abseiling, and competency in other outdoor pursuits.
  • Experience in monitoring indoor climbing, high ropes and abseiling structures and equipment.
  • Ability to lead groups in climbing, high ropes, abseiling and other outdoor adventure and recreational pursuits.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to relate with a range of persons in order to lead groups, maintain a harmonious working environment and to establish and maintain relationships with school students and external clients.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member.
  • Understanding or ability to rapidly acquire understanding of the operations of a state high school in Queensland and the applicable legislation and policies.
  • Ability to source suitable camp venues, prepare costings, manage the booking process and student permission forms.

While there are no mandatory requirements for this position, it would be highly desirable that the successful candidate has the following:

  • Current first-aid and CPR qualifications
  • Certificate IV (or higher) in Outdoor Recreation, outdoor education experience in high ropes, climbing and abseiling, and competency in other outdoor pursuits.
  • Competency in vertical rescue relevant to high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Competency for leading high and low challenge ropes
  • Competency in guiding climbing and abseiling.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
