About the branch

The Melbourne Division is responsible for the service delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Regional resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for rural, regional and urban communities. Service delivery is managed and delivered within the demands of the Divisional Action Plan and the requirements of the Division’s state-wide fire and emergency role and in partnership with community and government agencies.

Each region consists of a diverse range of parks and reserves.  Staff working within the Region are responsible for providing efficient and effective implementation of a broad range of often complex park management functions including natural, cultural and built asset management, visitor management and services, stakeholder management, park planning and emergency response.

About the role and your responsibilities

Your prime focus will be to plan for and deliver activities associated with supporting communities and park visitors in getting active, in parks and contributing to lifelong connections to the Parks Victoria estate. In this role, you will specifically work within the Visitor & Community team to provide support and capacity around customer services, visitor information and on-ground works within the Waterways District.  The role will support the delivery of the Regional Action Plan and corporate plans including Volunteering in Parks, Learning in Nature and Healthy Communities Strategies.

You will undertake activities requiring a high level of customer service and environmental expertise as well as being accountable for personal performance. You will actively participate in a team environment ensuring that the overall success of the team and may be required at times to work with all levels of management in the District. You will be adaptable and flexible to on ground service requirements to ensure superior park management services are always achieved.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Education, Public Health and/or equivalent experience in a similar field.
  • A Coxswains Grade 1 or Grade 2 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency with extensive boating experience will be highly regarded due to the type of work undertaken by the District.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementation of community engagement, natural resource management, outdoor education, volunteering or community health programs.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check.
