Red Earth is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and reliable Regional Assistant to join our team as we continue to grow within our distinct regions of operation – Cape York and the Top End.

The ideal candidate has experience working with school groups, teachers and is passionate about providing a positive and safe experience for their client group. Ideally, they will be based in Cairns (our Cape York hub) or Darwin (our Top End hub), and have a background or worked within the education, tourism or Indigenous engagement sectors.

Outline of the Regional Assistant’s responsibilities

1. Group Transfer and Supporting Immersions

  • Transfer groups between homelands, and for day activities in a safe and timely manner as per documentation and information provided Red Earth.
  • Follow all road rules, fatigue management and driver responsibilities under relevant state laws and Red Earth operator accreditation. Understand and follow all points as outlined in the Red Earth driver training.
  • Support Leaders in decision-making and logistics, to best of their knowledge and ability.

2. Maintain positive community relations and engagement

  • Build relationships, trust and understanding with community members.
  • Fulfil these duties in consultation with the immersion leaders, whilst leveraging your relationships to create momentous activities and cultural sessions on the ground.

3. Maintain and manage equipment and assets

  • Ensure the storage shed is neat and tidy, and that items are organised and stored in the appropriate condition.
  • Collect the immersion equipment as required, for instance, replace damaged equipment, return surplus equipment to the shed, and so on.

4. Add value to the immersion experience by working with and supporting the following stakeholder:

Immersion Leaders and Assistants

  • Problem solve where needed and report issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Support the Leader and Assistant where required in the running of the immersion. For instance, help around meal times, shuttling groups, forward planning with the community and bookings, and so on.

Travelling teachers and adult clients

  • Be professional and positive when engaged with travelling teachers or adult clients.
  • Build rapport and encourage positive group dynamics.
  • Report any concerns to the Immersion Leader or Regional Manager.

Students and participants

  • Be professional and positive when around students and participants.
  • Build rapport with participants and create a good working relationship.
  • Report any concerns to the Immersion Leader or Regional Manager.

Requirements for the position

  • Position is casual.
  • Our busy periods are the April, June-July and September-October school holidays; however, some days will fall out of this.
  • Willing and able to obtain a relevant Working with Children Check.
  • Willing to complete a first aid course.
  • Must hold a current heavy vehicle driver’s license and driver authority (MR or higher).
  • The ideal candidate needs to be a reliable worker and able to keep to a provided schedule. Be able to follow instruction and stick to timeframes, while still being able to use your own initiative.
  • The candidate will be responsible and able to look after company equipment, and keen to contribute towards the Red Earth program.

Pay Package

Day Rate: $350.00
Hourly Rate: $29.17

  • Above rates are excluding superannuation.
  • If required to use your personal vehicle, kilometres and fuel paid at $0.78 per km. Logbook need to be supplied to track amount of km’s driven and to be reimbursed.
  • Red Earth will cover the expense of the Working with Children Check and first aid certificate (if required).
