About the Role
Within the Environmental Operations branch, your role will be to drive innovative education programs and activities primarily at Council’s three Environmental Visitor Centres – Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden, Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary, but also more broadly.
Across the three centres, some of your tasks will include:
- Develop and deliver innovative, integrated and sustainable environmental education, behaviour change and environmental awareness programs and activities that improve environmental literacy and enhance visitor experience.
- Manage the design and delivery of curriculum based environmental education programs and resources to support the environmental outcomes of the environmental visitor centres and ensure alignment with the Australian Curriculum including inquiry-based principles, design thinking, virtual education content development and delivery.
- Develop and manage innovative, integrated and sustainable environmental education excursions, and online programs for the key customer groups and general community members that align with the environmental outcomes of the environmental visitor centres and Council’s Environment and Liveability Strategy.
- Lead the coordination and delivery of the environmental visitor centres guiding program that seeks to enhance a captivating and engaging visitor experience.
- Lead the continual development and delivery of Council’s curriculum-based Kids in Action program in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Actively partner with relevant internal and external groups (in particular First Nations representatives, external consultants, tertiary institutions and volunteer groups) to foster their participation and cooperative involvement in the development of educational activities and programs.
About you
We’re looking for someone who has project and program development skills to deliver in this role. You’ll be effective in relationship management and partnership development, working with community groups, the public and volunteers.
Mandatory requirements of this role include:
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Education or other related discipline.
- Substantial experience in developing and delivering environmental education programs and projects for a variety of actual and potential customer/user groups.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development within the context of the Australian National Curriculum/Queensland (C2C).
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus, persuasion and community liaison, and experience in effectively dealing with community groups and volunteers to achieve positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to supervise, lead and delegate responsibilities to others, including the capacity to manage complex partnerships and relationships.
- Current “C” class driver licence, current First Aid Certificate and Working with Children Blue Card.
- Work on weekends when scheduled.
