About the role – Casual, multiple positions available!
We are seeking motivated individuals who thrive in the outdoors and love all things adventure! As an Outdoor Instructor you will lead our participants (mainly school aged children) who are joining our Adventure Pathways programs which include camps, expeditions, and day programs. This role will provide plenty of variety and scope for building on your group facilitation skills. Ideally you would be happy to work across our Mylor Adventure Camp and Wirraway (Strathalbyn) sites, with occasional travel to sites such as schools or locations in community.
Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Facilitate activities and provide supervision to program participants during adventure based programs
- Follow Adventure Pathways Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant Work Directives in the facilitation of all activities
- Participate in organisational communication and development systems such as staff meetings, planning and review days and quality assurance programs
- Work collaboratively with other Group Facilitators to ensure the programs are delivered consistently and efficiently display professionalism and courtesy in all interactions with clients and staff
- Implement contingency plans where required to address issues which affect normal service delivery and operations
About you
You are a natural leader and outdoor enthusiast who enjoys working with young people and seeing them grow into healthier, more connected version of themselves through facilitating purposeful outdoor activities. You are not afraid of new challenges, and you may already be working towards certification in Outdoor Education or Outdoor Recreation. This will be the perfect way to enter the industry in a dynamic and fulfilling role.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation or equivalent experience. Youth Work or related qualifications may also be considered with appropriate experience.
- Hold or be actively working towards at least one adventure activity specific qualification related to bush walking, rock-climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, high ropes etc.
- Working knowledge of outdoor industry risk management practices and standards, including the Australian Adventure Activity Standards.
- Previous experience facilitating adventure activities in a similar setting
Specific Requirements
Baptist Care SA is committed to the safety and protection of all children and vulnerable people and as such applicants will be considered in accordance with our safety practices and suitability.
You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain:
- A valid DHS Working with Children Check
- Safe Environments for Children and Young People
- Provide First Aid HLTAID003 or equivalent
- Wilderness First Aid HLTAID005 (Off-site expeditions)
- National Police Clearance
- Travel within South Australia
- A valid full South Australian C Class driver’s licence
- Ability to work outside of normal office hours will be required
- Physically capable of undertaking strenuous outdoor activities
