About the role
As a Marine Ranger (position based in Tidal River), your primary focus will be to assist in the safe and efficient delivery of a range of Marine related programs that include but are not limited to Rapid Health Assessments, Marine Pest surveys, Marine Compliance related patrols. Programs will involve the safe operation of vessels and diving operations. Along with a range of specific marine related programs the successful applicant will be required to assist with a range of terrestrial based projects within South Gippsland District including – customer service, environmental management, visitor and facilities asset management and park patrols as directed by the Ranger Team Leader.

You will be working with a team of dedicated staff to deliver a range of park management programs requiring a level of environmental and service expertise and the position will be accountable for personal performance. The Marine Ranger will demonstrate a strong personal work ethic and actively participate in a team environment ensuring that the overall success of the team is considered to be an outcome of individual success. You will be adaptable and flexible to on the ground service requirements in order to ensure superior park management services are achieved at all times.
The South Gippsland District contains some of Victoria’s most beautiful coastal line, RAMSAR wetlands, many national parks and reserves, including Victoria’s largest Marine National Park. There are many small coastal and regional communities, from Foster, Toora, Leongatha, Wonthaggi and Inverloch, which contain all the services you would need including high quality schools, medical infrastructure and a variety of employment opportunities.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Tertiary qualification in Marine Science / Environmental Management, Park Management or equivalent experience is preferable
- Demonstrated experience in customer service, with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Relevent SCUBA diving qualifications (including logged dives preferably in temperate waters)
- Coxswains Certificate would be advantageous.
- The incumbent must be available to work weekends and public holidays if required
