Job Description

This Teaching role is a 12-month fixed term contract, commencing in January 2027. The Outdoor Education Teacher, along with Outdoor Education staff, provides instructional leadership that enables students between Years 6 – 10 to learn experientially, through directed and guided experiences using sensory awareness, active participation and nature’s resources. Reporting to the Outdoor Education Coordinator, the Teacher will create and facilitate high-quality learning experiences for students and contribute to creating an environment to foster this growth. The learning experiences are practical in nature and reflect contemporary educational thought and research with strong curriculum links. The programme includes learning activities and experiences at various Outdoor Education locations within Southeast Queensland via expeditions in the natural environment.

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering curriculum based Outdoor Education programmes;
  • Qualifications and/or extensive experience, in conjunction with an appropriate level of practical skills in outdoor activities including: bushwalking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, climbing and abseiling or willingness to gain these.
  • Specific qualifications in Outdoor Education will be highly desirable;
  • Demonstrate high quality computer and technological skills, including being proficient with Microsoft Office, Schoolbox, Onenote and Stile software programs, or a willingness to upskill in this area.
  • Willingness to travel to regional areas within South-East Queensland for periods of time to undertake wilderness activities;
  • Possession of a current:
    1. Wilderness First Aid Certificate including CPR
    2. Bronze Medallion
    3. Medium Rigid (MR) licence or ability to gain such licence.
  • Eligible to work in Australia.
