About the Team
The area the Bacchus Marsh team manage include: Brisbane Ranges National Parks, Stieglitz Historic Reserve, Lerderderg State Park (including the Pyrete Range) Werribee Gorge State Park, Long Forest Flora and Fauna Reserve as well a number of smaller reserves.
About the role
Our Rangers are key to Parks Victoria providing exceptional experiences for visitors to Victoria’s parks and reserves. As a Ranger, you are responsible for the on-ground management of Parks Victoria’s estate, consistent with organisational priorities, policies and procedures, ensuring that people can enjoy the outdoors and protecting the things that make our parks and reserves so special.
You will work as part of a team in delivering a variety of projects and services including (but not limited to): working with Traditional Owners in joint management and other partnership arrangements; conservation program delivery (such as pest plants and animals, threatened species); visitor infrastructure and asset construction and maintenance (such as roads, walking tracks, day visitor areas and campgrounds); compliance and enforcement activities; the delivery of education programs; and engagement with the community, licensed tour operators and other commercial operations, and volunteers.
Rangers are also encouraged to participate in Victoria’s fire and emergency management arrangements as part of Forest Fire Management Victoria.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Relevant qualifications and skills for the on-ground management of the Parks Victoria estate, such as environmental science, natural resource management, conservation and land management, outdoor education, community engagement or carpentry or other trade.
- Demonstrated experience delivering routine and moderately complex on-ground services and projects under general supervision and as part of a team to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal communication, including the ability to explain concepts to people of different backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive team environment.
- Strong commitment to high standards of integrity, accountability and professionalism in the workplace.
