The PCS Urban Wildlife Team is a small team tasked to deliver the ACT Governments Urban Wildlife Program. As a main function of the program, the team responds to a large number of animal vehicle collisions to humanely handle and destroy injured animals when required, and clear ACT roadsides of deceased animals. The team is also responsible for other urban wildlife duties in coordinating assistance for wildlife from other animal welfare organisations. The team also provides assistance with straying livestock and other programs and operations with the Parks and Conservation Service.
The Senior Urban Wildlife Officer co-ordinates the delivery of the PCS Urban Wildlife Program. PCS attends more than 2000 kangaroo collisions each year across the ACT. This program requires staff to work largely autonomously to attend to sick or injured wildlife across the ACT. Most callouts are to kangaroos injured in vehicle collisions.
